Biggest Camel Beauty Pageant In The World

The Al Dhafrah Festival that is held every year at Madinat Zayed in Abu Dhabi has been drawing the awareness of many visitors who are eager to know more about the UAE's culture and heritage.

Over 20,000 camels competed at the fourth Camel Beauty Pageant in the UAE's capital of Abu Dhabi, as learned from the organizers.

With over $10 million worth of prizes to come for the winners of the competition, which began last Thursday, the contest is actually being considered as a serious business by the camel owners and is considered to be the biggest camel beauty pageant in the world when it comes to the value of prizes and number of participants.

The prerequisite for the camel owners who want to take part in the contest is that their camels must be cleaned scrupulously and made free from any kind of disease.

Some of the leading camel connoisseurs of the Gulf will be judging and ranking the camels on criteria like the grace of their necks, their nose-shape and humps and also their hair style.

The judges will also be categorizing the camels according to their breed, age and ownership. The reason is to revive desert traditions.
